What common sense should be known when operating sulfur hexafluoride gas

Published on:2018-10-30 Click:145

Sulfur hexafluoride gas has a history of 100 years. It is an artificial inert gas synthesized by two French chemists, Moissan and Lebeau, in 1900. Around 1940, the US Communist Party used it in the Manhattan Program (nuclear military) and provided it for commercial use in 1947. At present, SF6 gas is mainly used in electric power industry. It is used for four similar electrical equipment as insulation or arc extinguishing.

In terms of gas consumption, 80% is used for high and medium voltage electrical equipment. All sulfur hexafluoride gas is applicable to electric power equipment, because it mainly has the following characteristics.

(1) Strong electronegativity. It has different arc extinguishing performance.

(2) High insulation strength. At atmospheric pressure, it is three times that of air.

(3) Good thermal conductivity and easy to compound. Especially when SF6 gas dissociates due to discharge or arc.

(4) It can be stored in small air tanks. This is because it is easy to liquefy under high pressure under the greenhouse.

(5) The gas supply is convenient, the price is not expensive and stable.

Operators of sulfur hexafluoride gas shall be equipped with safety protection articles, including special protective clothing, gas masks, oxygen respirators, gloves, protective glasses, protective grease, etc. Safety protection articles must comply with relevant national regulations. The safety protection articles shall be stored in a clean, dry and cool special cabinet, which shall be kept by a specially assigned person and checked regularly to ensure that they are ready for use at any time.

The manufacturer of high-purity sulfur hexafluoride reminds all personnel using gas masks of oxygen respirators to have a physical examination first, especially to check the heart and lung functions. Those with abnormal functions cannot use the above products. When workers wear oxygen respirators and gas masks for work, they should be specially supervised on site to prevent accidents.
